Learn the fundamentals of
keel boat sailing, including sail theory and practice,
terminology, Rules of the Road, safety equipment and
procedures, Crew Overboard drills, more sailing practice,
knots and much more.
Prerequisites:
None. This is an introductory sailing course.
Students are not required to have any previous sailing
experience. It is recommended that you have sailing gloves,
boat shoes, sunglasses, sunscreen, hat and a "let's
have fun and learn to sail" attitude.
General Description: Able
to sail a boat of about 20 feet in length in light to
moderate winds and sea condition in familiar waters without
supervision. A preparatory standard with no auxiliary power
or navigation skills required.
When you sign up for Basic
Sailing, you will receive the ASA textbook Sailing
Fundamentals, and an official ASA Log Book. You will be
encouraged to study certain parts of the textbook prior to
coming for your on-the-water classes.
There will be no more than
three students on your boat, and each will take turns
performing all of the necessary functions to operate the
yacht. At the end of the class, you may take
the test required for ASA certification. After completion, the instructor will certify in your Log Book that you
have passed the Basic Keelboat Sailing course.
